Maurizio Distefano Licensing to manage licensing for two classic properties

Maurizio Distefano Licensing (MDL) announces that it has been chosen by Giochi Preziosi, a major Italian name in both toys and entertainment, to manage licensing for two of its best-loved properties: the iconic children’s brand Cicciobello and the classic karaoke brand Canta Tu.

Born in 1962 with big blue eyes, a blond bob hairstyle and its famous identification tag, Cicciobello is a highly successful doll – but it’s also much more. It’s an evergreen brand that has won the hearts of little girls and boys for generations, conveying positive values, nurturing creativity and encouraging the simple joys of role play for more than 60 years.

Cicciobello was a first in the market. Its unique features, similar to those of a real baby, and its ability to cry – a unique innovation at the time – made it memorable. Its target audience ranges from newborns who can experience sensory and experiential play with Cicciobello and children aged 2 to 5 who can role-play parenthood to parents themselves, who love the many positive associations of Cicciobello.

“Cicciobello is an established brand with a positive message and irresistible appeal to children and families,” says Maurizio Distefano, president of MDL. “It’s ideal for growing in a variety of product categories where the brand’s values make it truly stand out. And it is, of course, a unique brand – and not just in Italy.”

A slightly different Giochi Preziosi brand, but one that has also become part of the cultural fabric of Italy is Canta Tu.

Canta Tu is all about singing – anywhere, anytime! This much-loved audio/video system and microphone has allowed millions of people to experience the joys of karaoke over the years and, in the process, has become an iconic brand that has captivated both adults and children – in fact anyone who loves singing! The keywords of the Canta Tu brand are fun, celebration and togetherness.

The powerful reach and awareness of the Canta Tu brand make it perfect for licensing both in classic categories and also in new areas focused on its associations with fun, joy and getting together.

Maurizio Distefano says: “Canta Tu is a part of Italian culture and a unique brand offer that offers many diverse possibilities for licensing collaborations. We are looking forward enormously to exploring the opportunities this extraordinary brand offers with potential licensees.”
