RHS and Sofas & Stuff celebrate their four-year collaboration at the 2025 RHS Chelsea Flower Show

RHS and Sofas & Stuff celebrate their four-year collaboration at the 2025 RHS Chelsea Flower Show

This year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show (20 – 24 May 2025), will see the launch of a unique campaign in which Sofas & Stuff Ltd, a creator of beautiful British bespoke sofas, chairs, beds, footstools and more, tells the story of its collaboration with the RHS to date. It’s called Roots of a Masterpiece, the RHS has announced.

Encompassing past collections, a new fabric design, and the introduction, for the first time, of key existing designs on velvet, Roots of a Masterpiece is both a celebration of Sofas & Stuff’s four-year-long creative journey with the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), and an exploration of how the fabrics it has developed have travelled from historic artwork to thoughtfully designed fabric and, finally, to beautifully handcrafted furniture.

Sofas & Stuff will debut a brand-new design, RHS Etta’s Bouquet, and introduce seven existing RHS designs on velvet – the first time the collection has been available in this fabric – at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2025.

Named after the granddaughter of Sofas & Stuff founder Andrew Cussins, RHS Etta’s Bouquet is a gentle nod to the ties between family, nature and home that brings together five botanical paintings by 19th-century artist Caroline Maria Applebee.

Soft, open roses, camellia and hollyhock come together in a romantic composition, framed by fine stripes that add a touch of structure and rhythm. Like a garden that evolves through the seasons, this fabric design offers a sense of continuity and quiet joy – an everlasting bouquet to bring charm and character to your home.

A vibrant evolution of the RHS Etta’s Bouquet design also features in the collection. RHS Etta’s Bouquet All Over is an all-over floral design featuring soft roses, camellia, and hollyhock in a tumbling, overlapping arrangement.

A companion design to RHS Etta’s Bouquet and RHS Etta’s Bouquet All Over will also be available. Etta’s Stripe is a simple monotonal stripe that features a slim central band flanked by fine stripes, bringing a gentle elegance to any interior.

RHS Etta’s Bouquet joins a growing collection of fabrics inspired by the RHS Lindley Collection – the world’s finest library of botanical art. Visitors to RHS Chelsea Flower Show can see the full range at Stand 615, Soane House.

Presented together through the Roots of a Masterpiece campaign, each design reimagines botanical illustrations from the archives, with playful shifts in scale and colour.

But that’s not all. A number of the much-loved designs of the past four years are now available in a new fabric. RHS Collections on Velvet introduces seven existing designs on richly printed velvet – alongside the established linen designs – for the first time.

The four-year collaboration draws on the work of celebrated artists and horticulturalists, including Caroline Maria Applebee, Pieter van Kouwenhoorn, Henry Moon, William Hooker, Lilian Snelling and Gertrude Jekyll.

These designs work not only to beautify sofas but across complete schemes – curtains, cushions and upholstery -– making it easy to create a cohesive, harmonious space that celebrates nature’s beauty in every detail.

The first RHS collaboration with Sofas & Stuff was the B&LLAs-nominated RHS 2022 Fabric Collection, whose popularity inspired the launch of the RHS 2023 Fabric collection. The RHS Botanicals collection continued this successful and highly creative partnership. Roots of a Masterpiece celebrates this creativity and design excellence – but also looks forward by highlighting exciting new designs for 2025.

Andrew Cussins, Founder of Sofas & Stuff, says: “As we continue to explore the vast RHS archive of artworks, this collaboration has evolved – rooted in tradition yet always finding fresh inspiration. The Roots of a Masterpiece campaign will celebrate the enduring beauty of botanical design, reimagined for modern living.”

Cathy Snow, Licensing Manager, RHS, adds: “Like nature itself, the RHS fabrics designed over the years by Sofas & Stuff are rich and varied, offering a range of textures and colourways to suit every aesthetic and lifestyle. These designs honour the original artworks, while bringing them beautifully into three dimensions on furniture. Our four-year collaboration with Sofas & Stuff has been exciting and rewarding, and, in Roots of a Masterpiece, is celebrated in a thrilling and moving way.”
