POC launches bespoke Sustainable Packaging Guide for the industry at Licensing Expo

Products of Change (POC) has announced it has teamed up with its community of members to launch a brand-new Sustainable Packaging Guide, available free to all POC members via the Resources page on the POC website. This industry-agnostic guide brings together the best thinking, data, and tools in one easy-to-use resource, designed to help businesses of all sizes rethink their packaging strategies through a sustainability lens.

With POC partnering with Global Licensing Group to bring sustainability to Licensing Expo, the event was an opportune time to officially launch the guide to the industry, with physical copies available on the POC booth (D226) and the digital version going live on the POC website during the show.

Crafted with input from industry leaders including The LEGO Group, Magic Light, Tesco, and the POC Advisor community, the new guide offers practical insights to help you:

  • Understand the environmental impact of your packaging choices;
  • Align with the POC Industry Framework for sustainable transformation;
  • Explore real-world alternatives and emerging materials;
  • Drive better packaging design – without the guesswork.

Packaging has become the first major focus of global environmental legislation in recent years, due to its visibility, short-life, and high-volume – its contribution to environmental harm is significant.

With packaging using 50% of all paper and 40% of all plastics produced globally, it’s not just a waste issue – it’s a climate issue. Packaging alone could take up 19% of the global carbon budget, contributing to between 36% and 50% of municipal solid waste worldwide.

There is no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to packaging, which is why POC’s Sustainable Packaging Guide focuses on empowering businesses to make informed and balanced decisions, considering both environmental and economic outcomes.

“Here’s the good news: sustainable packaging isn’t just better for the planet; it makes business sense too. Economic benefits will naturally follow as we reduce waste, innovate across supply chains, and meet growing consumer demand for responsible products,” said Helena Mansell-Stopher, founder and CEO of Products of Change.

Products of Change will be sharing its new Sustainable Packaging Guide at Licensing Expo, supplemented by a session at the Networking Hub: ‘Designing for Impact: Sustainable Strategies in Toy Manufacturing’ at 11:00-11:30am Tuesday 20 May. This talk will bring Wendi Wing, creative manager, branding & packaging at Moose Toys US, and James George, lead advisor at POC, together for a deep dive into the benefits of sustainable product design.

Through POC’s presence at Licensing Expo, its Sustainable Packaging Guide, and its ongoing packaging workstream webinar series, POC continues to support the industry on its packaging optimisation journey.
